How to Retain Current Email Subscribers: Part 1…

Acquiring new customers is important, but retaining them is a task on
every email marketers to do list. A long term customer is of more value to any
business than a single deal customer and, most of the time, it’s a lot less
expensive to keep an old customer than to acquire a new one.

So how can you do
this with your email marketing? Here are a few tips to keeping your old
customers happy and clicking on your email campaigns!
#1 Segmentation
We have said this time and time again  email segmentation is the key to
successfully targeting your list! Yet many email marketers continue to batch
and blast their list. Segmenting your email list will allow you to target each
and every person. Sending customers targeted email campaigns with
deals/information of interest to them will push them to click on your email
campaign. Segmentation may seem like a scary thought to some email marketers
but there is no need to be afraid. If you have collected information on your
subscribers and their behavior you can set up targeted segments in just a few
simple clicks!
#2 Connect on a personal level
Every now and then build an email campaign just to say hi or touch base
with your subscribers. This could be a simple “Hey, we are here for
you” email campaign just to show you care. When subscribers see emails
like this pop up in their inbox it gives them a good vibe about your
company. These emails should be used for
the purpose of staying connected to your existing customers, not making sales
to new ones. It also should be short and sweet; you don’t want to bore them
with a long email campaign. Also, make your messages personal to customers, use
their first name or brand name and take the time to highlight something special
about them. If your campaigns can bring a smile to their face, it will push them
to open future email campaigns from your brand.
#3 Say thank you
Like the tip above, you can always send a “thank you” email to your
subscriber list to show gratitude for a past sale or sign up. Pop in a little
thank you gift or add on free shipping for their next purchase if you can. Thanking
your customers shows them how important they are to you! By offering a free
gift with next order or free shipping it adds a little sales flare to your
campaign without being too pushy.
Your current subscriber list is the best asset you have as an email
marketer. You should always strive to grow your list, but keep in mind that
keeping your current customer list happy will pay off in the end. They already
know your brand, they know your products and they know your service. Focusing
your time and energy on this group, as oppose to always trying to find new
customers, can be a powerful way to supercharge revenues for your brand.
